Spring Term 2

 

This term in English we will be looking at Persuasive writing and linking this to our Challenge curriculum topic of the Rainforest. We will also be looking at poetry and writing some of our own poetry in the style of Jasper O'Leary. World Book day also falls into this term and we shall be celebrating this.

World Book Day

 

During world book day, the children took part in a range of activities including reading to some of the younger children in school. The children also completed some poetry based on the characters from stories they explored throughout the day.

Spring term 1

 

This half term we are going to be looking at the book 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell which links nicely to our Rainforest topic in challenge curriculum. We will be reading he novel as a class and completing some writing based on the book. The children will be exploring the text in different ways and will be developing their inference and deduction skills throughout the term.

Wolves in the Walls

 

The children in year 5 and 6 have been very lucky to have Simon from Stone Soup come into school to provide them with an entertaining session where he brought the book "Wolves in the Walls" to life through drama.

 

The children in year 5 and 6 worked collaboratively to create some fantastic drama scenes and some fantastic character descriptions. They then worked on a piece of writing that was either a Diary entry, a sequel to the story or a description of what is behind the walls. the writing that the children have produced is FANTASTIC.

 

 

The children then peer assessed each others work and helped one another to up level their writing. the atmosphere in the room was fantastic. The children were engaged, independent and supportive of each other.

This half term in Y5 we are going to be looking at developing our writing further implementing our learning from previous lessons. We are going to be focusing on picture books and how these can encourage writing and how valuable pictures are in texts. We will be developing our inference skills and questioning ourselves about the stories.

 

We will also be looking at Biographies and Autobiographies and the differences they both have.

  1. Roald Dahl Day!

 

In Year 5 we had such a fantastic day celebrating Roald Dahl day. We made our own Wonka peppermint creams with chocolate on, created our own character descriptions of our very own Roald Dahl Characters and sketched our interpretation of Augustus Gloop from the character description Roald Dahl wrote about him.
