Spring Term.

18.01.19

This week we have continued with 'The Lost Happy Endings' and we are writing our own alternative stories. In maths we have continued with using the grid method to multiply 2 digits by 1 digit. The children have really enjoyed creating their own wall hanging in DT/ Art. These will make a great display in our classroom when they are finished.

Home Learning- I have sent spellings home with the children. I have also set a new cracking comprehension task (rather Y2 or Y3). The children have 2 weeks to complete the comprehension.

Times Tables Rock stars-I have set the whole class a challenge on the website. The challenge will have a set of headphones over it. The challenges will change each week and focus on different times tables until they are fully embedded. I have attached a guide underneath to help you with understanding how to use Times Tables Rock stars.

Thank you,

Miss Wiles and Da Vinci team.

Happy New Year! The children have settled back into School well and are enjoying their new topics. In maths we are focusing on using the grid method, we will be looking closely at this method for the next couple of weeks. In English we are focusing on the book 'The Lost Happy Endings'. We have been describing the characters and the setting using effective adjectives and adverbs. We have started our new Science topic the healthy body. We have been labelling the skeletal system and have been discussing a healthy balanced diet and the food groups. In histor we have created timeline showing all of the events in The Victorian era.

Times Tables Rockstars- The children have been shown how to use times tables rockstars and can play this at home using their PurpleMash password.

Home Learning- very impressed with the amount of reading over Christmas. Remember to read 3 times a week, practise times tables and spellings (diary spellings are on the same spelling sheet).

Thank you for your support,

Miss Wiles and DaVinci team.

Autumn term.

21.12.18

What a busy, Christmassy week! The children have enjoyed their Christmas Party, Breakfast with Santa and all of the Christmas activities. Thank you for organising a lovely Secret Santa the children enjoyed opening their presents.

This week we have also taken part in a Colouring Competition, we coloured in storage boxes from Bradshaw Removals. Well done to Katie and Jack who won Smyths gift vouchers for their hard work and colouring skills.

Home Learning- I have sent home spellings with the Children. We will only be testing the Friday we get back. So you will have the week starting the 7th Jan to practise as I am sure you're very busy over Christmas. I have included 4 of the Spring diary spellings within the spelling sheet as I think it will be easier to keep track of diary spellings by doing it this way. Continue with reading and times table practise.

A big thank you for all of your lovely cards, gifts and voucher. I have enjoyed teaching your lovely children this term and will look forward to the next term!

Have a lovely Christmas,

Miss Wiles and Da Vinci team.

What a busy week! The children were fantastic in their production, very proud of them and we hope you enjoyed it. This week we have been completing our topics and discussing what we have learnt.

Remember, It is our Christmas party on Monday so children can come in their party clothes. Lots of events next week so look at the newsletter.

Home learning- Children have been sent home with their spellings, I have also set a cracking comprehension task. You will find the link at the bottom of our class page and the Children's individual Username and Password has been written in the back of their diaries (if they have had their diaries in school this week). Children to look at Y2 and Y3 comprehension tasks to be completed over Christmas. I have sent the children home with a new reading book. Let me know how they get on with them (in diary).

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Wiles

What a fantastic morning we have had at Bolton College. The children really enjoyed meeting our linking school and playing a variety of sports games. They all behaved impeccably and did our School proud! This week we have been planning our own Christmas adverts in English, looking at the 8 times table in maths and rehearsing for our production.

We have lots of exciting events happening in the next couple of weeks, so make sure you check the newsletter.

The children in Y2 and Y3 have been given letters regarding the coding club. The club has 25 spaces so if your child is interested get your slips in quickly.

Home Learning- The spellings for this week have been given out. We should be on the last spellings in the diary now (autumn). Remember to keep practising times tables- we have been working through the stickers (bronze, silver, gold) so will get round to everybody before Christmas. Keep reading three times a week and have a discussion about their book.

Thanks for your support,

DaVinci team.

30.11.18

This week in Da Vinci class we have been focusing on SPAG. We have been looking at main clauses and articles. We have also been completing cracking comprehension. In maths we have been continuing with times tables. The children completed a times table quiz and need to continue to focus on and learn their 3s, 4s and 8s. We also created our Snowflake Christmas decorations for the Christmas tree service. The children had a fantastic time at the service, check out our pictures on twitter.

Linking Project- letters have been given out regarding the linking project next Friday.

Home Learning- The children's spellings have been given out. To clear confusion, if your child is in Alpha to Omega they should be learning Alpha to Omega spellings and diary spellings. If your child is not in Alpha to Omega they should be learning the weekly sound/ class spellings and the diary spellings. If your child is in Alpha to Omega and you would like to learn and be tested on both then this is fine, any extra learning is always great. Remember to keep reading 3 times a week and questioning your children on their book and practise times tables.

Thank you,

Da Vinci team.

What a busy week! The children have been completing their tests this week and they have tried hard. We have also been writing letters to our future self for the time capsule. The children have had a very fun day taking part in an assembly,  putting their things in the capsule and watching it being buried.

Letters regarding the linking project are being sent out on Monday with information about the day.

The children have taken home lyrics to practise their songs, they are doing great so keep on practising.

Home Learning- Spellings this week are a mixture of previous spellings to revise and consolidate. Keep practising times tables and reading three times a week. Diaries are checked every Thursday.

Thank you for your support,

Da Vinci team.

16.11.18

This week in DaVinci class we have been continuing with our multiplication and division work. In English, we have started work on our new book 'The Stone Age Boy' and have looked at different settings. We have also been investigating with magnets in Science.

The children have had a great day for children in need and enjoyed their fitness assembly this morning, thank you for sending in your donation.

Linking Project- we are going to be working with another school and completing fun activities and work. On the 7th December we will be going to Bolton College to take part in different workshops with our linking school and will be getting to know them better. A letter will be sent home shortly with more details.

Home learning- this week our spellings are based on Adverbs these will be tested next Friday. It is also important the that children are reading three times a week. There are still children who have not had their diaries signed. I have been testing times tables this week and it is apparent which children have been practising at home, keep practising.

Thank you for your support,

Da Vinci team.

09.11.18

We have had such a busy week this week with lots of great activities. We loved our workshop on Monday and were engaged throughout the day. Have a look on twitter and the class web page to see what we got up to. We also had a great Diwali day on Wednesday- sampling traditional food, Bollywood dancing and creating Indian Art. This week we have been focusing on Remembrance and have written poems, created posters on Word and have completed some fantastic artwork.

Thank you to those who have sent in a purple donation, the children always enjoy wearing their own clothes, (especially looking at each others football tops).

Our spellings for this week focus on homophones. These spellings are ones that children often misspell and get confused with the meaning. If you can practise any other homophones then that would be great also. Just a reminder to make sure all children are reading at least 3 times a week and practising times tables.

Have a lovely weekend,

Da Vinci team.

Stone Age to Iron Age workshop- letters have been sent home regarding our Stone Age to Iron Age workshop. This will take place on 5th November and payments are to be paid  through parent pay. I'm confident that the children will have a fantastic day and learn lots ahead of our topic.

Thanks for your support,

Da Vinci team.

This week the children have moved onto looking at different methods of addition and subtraction. In English we have started to plan our own stories based on 'Escape from Pompeii' and we have been focusing on the layers of the Earth and Volcanoes in Geography and Science.

Our diaries have now arrived which means that any home reading needs to be written into diaries and they will be checked on Thursday's. We also need to continue practising times tables and these will be tested in class. In regards to spellings the spelling grids will still be sent home on Friday's and will be tested the following Friday. In addition to this, the children will also need to learn the first four spellings from the Y3/4 Autumn grid (Accident, Actual, Actually, Address). Each week we will move onto the next four.
