This week in DaVinci we have been busy rehearsing our assembly and practising our speaking and listening skills. In Maths we have been focusing on equivalent fractions and in Challenge curriculum we have been recreating Gaudi’s buildings. The children had a great time on the inflatable course today, thank you to those who brought in money.

 

Assembly- our class assembly is on Wednesday at 9am, hope to see a lot of you then. We are having a dress rehearsal on Monday morning so please ensure costumes are brought in. Lines need to be learnt and can you help the children practise projecting their voices. 

 

Three Peaks Challenge- Miss Stewart and Miss Parker, along with two of Da Vinci’s parents will be completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday 15th June to raise money for our amazing Zen Garden. If you would like to contribute to this worthy cause, a sponsor form is available in the office and sponsors will soon be able to be taken on ParentPay. 

 

Home learning- spellings have been sent home. Continue with online programmes, reading and times tables. Mediterranean homework can still be handed in.

This week in Da Vinci we have continued with our Greek Myths in English. Looked at making the whole in Maths and have been Separating human and physical features in Challenge curriculum. The children have also been looking at famous landmarks in Art. 

 

Class Assembly- our class assembly will be on Wednesday 22nd May at 9am everyone is welcome. Costume letters have been sent home and can you please ensure children are practising their lines and bringing their lines back into School.   

 

Home learning- We have continued to have some fantastic Mediterranean work brought in and showcased. This can still be completed and brought in to school as it will be displayed in the Showcase area until we break up for Summer. Spellings have been set. Remember times tables practise, reading, cracking comprehension and Spelling Shed. 

 

Letters have been sent out regarding the Intra-class challenge, which will be held on Friday. It is a fun activity and fastest through the course will receive a medal.

This week in Da Vinci we have continued with our Greek Myths in English. Looked at tenths and decimals in Maths and have been locating countries on a map in Challenge curriculum. The children have also been looking at famous landmarks in Art.

 

School Linking Project- a reminder that on Wednesday 8th May we will be visiting Brownlow Fold School and will be taking part in a variety of fun activities including Art, Drama, DT and Sport. Children will all need to bring a packed lunch in a throwaway bag. See letter for more information and don’t forget to visit your ParentPay account to give consent.

I hope you’ve all had a lovely Easter break! This week we have started our new topic all about the Mediterranean. We have looked at Ancient Greek Myths and created a storyboard. We have also created a Greek timeline, researched Antoni Gaudi and shared our amazing Mediterranean homework. In Maths we have been focusing on fractions and counting in tenths. 

 

Book Bus- on Friday 3rd May the Book Bus will be coming to our School and will be parked on the Staff Car Park. The Bus will be here from 8:30am- 4pm giving the children time to visit before and after school with parents if needed. The children will be given a slot throughout the day to visit the Bus so can bring in money to spend on books (in a named envelope or purse/wallet). See more details on the letter sent through ParentPay.

 

Linking Project- on Wednesday 8th May we will be visiting Brownlow Fold School. See letter for more information and don’t forget to visit your ParentPay account to give consent. 

 

Home learning- A great effort over Easter with your homework. We have had some fantastic Mediterranean work brought in and showcased. This can still be completed and brought in to school to show before next Friday. Spellings have been set. Another busy week in Da Vinci class! It was lovely to see you all at parents evening on Wednesday. This week we have been focusing on instructions in English and have created our own recipe for Boy soup. In Maths we have been adding and subtracting lengths. The children also enjoyed a game of Rounders in the Sunshine on Thursday.

 

Easter- Easter egg creations need to be in on Wednesday. We are very excited to see them, I know the children and yourselves have been working hard. 

 

Tree planting- due to parents evening we had to cancel our tree planting slot. We will be planting our trees on Monday afternoon instead (1.4.19). Make sure wellies are brought in for this day. 

 

Home Learning-  I am very impressed with the children’s efforts on our online programmes, keep this up. Home learning this week includes reading 3 times a week, cracking comprehension (I have set a non fiction piece), spellings and times tables practise. I have also sent a couple of children home with reasoning questions this week, due to request by some parents. If you would like some sent home then leave a message In the diary and I will send some home next Friday.

This week in Da Vinci we have been focusing on instructions in English and length in Maths. We also enjoyed our Science Day. We designed, advertised and created our own Space Shuttles. 

 

Tree Planting- We will be planting our trees on Wednesday 27th March. Can you please ensure your children have their wellies in School on this day. 

 

Home Learning- to continue reading 3 times a week. Spellings have been sent home ready for our spelling test next week (Spelling Shed). To continue practising times tables and using times table rockstars (we are currently on the top of the leader board).

A very busy week in Da Vinci class! The children have worked hard on their tests and you should be very proud of them. Thank you to everyone who dressed silly and donated towards Comic Relief. The children look fantastic and have had a good day. 

 

Yoga- On  Thursday Lunch for the next 2 weeks, we will be taking part in a yoga class with Mrs Bradley. Can you please ensure children have their PE kits in School. 

 

Home Learning- I have set spellings on Spelling Shed (suffix ending -ly) the children seem to be enjoying the new website and we are in 3rd place. This weeks spellings will be a variety of previous spellings- focusing on prefixes and suffixes to see if the children are retaining the spellings. I have set a comprehension on Cracking Comprehension and also all times tables on Times Tables Rockstars. Can we continue to read 3 times a week and write this in the diary.

We have had a great day for World Book Day. The children look amazing, thank you for all of your effort. This week we have started some new topics. We are looking at light and shadows in Science and Field Work in Geography. Next week we will be completing some tests, can you make sure children have a water bottle in School.

 

Tree planting- we will be planting trees during the next couple of weeks, please can you bring in a bottle with the top and bottom cut off?

 

Home Learning- spellings have been sent out. We have also been set up on Spelling Shed and spellings have been set (prefixes). To log in to Spelling Shed use Purple Mash username and Purple mash password with children’s initials at the start (6 characters password). Reading should be done at least 3 times a week and written in the diary. Times tables to be practised regularly using Times Tables Rockstars and Diary.

What a great day we have had at Portland Basin Museum! The children have really enjoyed living life as a Victorian child. They were taught by a Victorian Master in the morning and then had a chance to experience life as a working child. We also had a visit around the Museum in between. Pictures have been put onto our class page under Challenge Curriculum- have a look at the incredible day we have had.

 

World Book Day- a reminder that World Book Day is next Friday. Children will be dressing up as a character from a book- we have lots of exciting activities planned for the day.

 

Home Learning- Children have been given spellings. I have added a tricky spelling onto the list (teleportation) the children were given the option and asked for the trickier spelling but if this is too difficult change the spelling to teleport. Remember to continue using times tables rock stars and reading 3 times a week. As an extra, optional homework linking to World book day the Children can design their own front cover and blurb of a book (A4 paper folded). They can redesign a book they already know or can create their own front cover of a made up book. These will look superb in our Reading Corner.

This week, we have been finishing off money in Maths, ready to start statistics after half term. We have been diary writing in English and have completed some great diary entries based on a Victorian child in the workhouse. In Science we have been looking a muscles in our body. 

Portland Basin Museum- Sorry that the trip wasn’t on ParentPay earlier this week. It is now on ParentPay so remember to visit your account. We are very excited!

Home Learning- I have set a cracking comprehension task for children to complete over half term (Y2 or Y3). Children have also been given spellings to practise and to write in sentences. Remember to continue with times tables rockstars and reading.

Spring Term.

8.2.19

 

This week we have been focusing on converting pounds to pence and adding money in Maths. In English we have been looking at subordinate clauses and sentence types. We have been using hot and cold shades to create our Sun in Art and have looked at the digestive system in Science.

Portland Basin Trip- letters have been sent out regarding our class trip. This will be a fantastic day and we are guaranteed to learn lots about the Victorians. We are all very excited! 

Home learning- spellings have been sent out, as a challenge can we please write our spelling words in a sentence. I have also shown the children some spelling activities on Purplemash. You will find these under teacher and then Y3 spelling quiz. It would be great if you could give these a try. Remember to complete last weeks Cracking Comprehension homework which is due to be completed next Friday. I am very happy to see that you are all using Times Tables Rockstars, keep it up. Finally, remember to continue reading 3 times a week. 

 

Reading Volunteer- If any parents or grandparents are free to read with Y3 and Y4 for an afternoon or morning or if you know anyone who might be interested then please let me know.

We have had a cold, snowy week with lots of excited children. This week we have written the main part of our stories and they are amazing. In Maths we have finished our work on multiplication and division and are now moving onto money. Any opportunities you get over the weekend to count money whilst shopping would be very helpful. We have learnt about Victorian life and inventions in History.

 

Home learning- this weeks spellings have been sent out. Remember to keep on top of times tables rockstars and to keep practising times tables. I have also set another cracking comprehension to be completed within the next 2 weeks. Again,  Reading has slipped since before Christmas, can we please ensure children are reading at least 3 times a week and you are writing this in their diary.

This week we have been focusing on division in maths, using the number line to find remainders. We have completed a lot of comprehension in English. In Science we have been comparing endoskeletons and exoskeletons. This afternoon we have created Victorian invention advertisement posters. 

Home learning- this weeks spellings have been sent out. Remember to keep on top of times tables rockstars and to keep practising times tables. Reading has slipped since before Christmas, can we please ensure children are reading at least  3 times a week and you are writing this in their diary.

This week we have continued with 'The Lost Happy Endings' and we are writing our own alternative stories. In maths we have continued with using the grid method to multiply 2 digits by 1 digit. The children have really enjoyed creating their own wall hanging in DT/ Art. These will make a great display in our classroom when they are finished.

Home Learning- I have sent spellings home with the children. I have also set a new cracking comprehension task (rather Y2 or Y3). The children have 2 weeks to complete the comprehension.

Times Tables Rock stars-I have set the whole class a challenge on the website. The challenge will have a set of headphones over it. The challenges will change each week and focus on different times tables until they are fully embedded. I have attached a guide underneath to help you with understanding how to use Times Tables Rock stars.

Happy New Year! The children have settled back into School well and are enjoying their new topics. In maths we are focusing on using the grid method, we will be looking closely at this method for the next couple of weeks. In English we are focusing on the book 'The Lost Happy Endings'. We have been describing the characters and the setting using effective adjectives and adverbs. We have started our new Science topic the healthy body. We have been labelling the skeletal system and have been discussing a healthy balanced diet and the food groups. In histor we have created timeline showing all of the events in The Victorian era.

Times Tables Rockstars- The children have been shown how to use times tables rockstars and can play this at home using their PurpleMash password. 

Home Learning- very impressed with the amount of reading over Christmas. Remember to read 3 times a week, practise times tables and spellings (diary spellings are on the same spelling sheet).

Autumn term.

What a busy, Christmassy week! The children have enjoyed their Christmas Party, Breakfast with Santa and all of the Christmas activities. Thank you for organising a lovely Secret Santa the children enjoyed opening their presents. 

This week we have also taken part in a Colouring Competition, we coloured in storage boxes from Bradshaw Removals. Well done to Katie and Jack who won Smyths gift vouchers for their hard work and colouring skills. 

Home Learning- I have sent home spellings with the Children. We will only be testing the Friday we get back. So you will have the week starting the 7th Jan to practise as I am sure you're very busy over Christmas. I have included 4 of the Spring diary spellings within the spelling sheet as I think it will be easier to keep track of diary spellings by doing it this way. Continue with reading and times table practise. 

A big thank you for all of your lovely cards, gifts and voucher. I have enjoyed teaching your lovely children this term and will look forward to the next term!

What a busy week! The children were fantastic in their production, very proud of them and we hope you enjoyed it. This week we have been completing our topics and discussing what we have learnt.

Remember, It is our Christmas party on Monday so children can come in their party clothes. Lots of events next week so look at the newsletter. 

Home learning- Children have been sent home with their spellings, I have also set a cracking comprehension task. You will find the link at the bottom of our class page and the Children's individual Username and Password has been written in the back of their diaries (if they have had their diaries in school this week). Children to look at Y2 and Y3 comprehension tasks to be completed over Christmas. I have sent the children home with a new reading book. Let me know how they get on with them (in diary).

What a fantastic morning we have had at Bolton College. The children really enjoyed meeting our linking school and playing a variety of sports games. They all behaved impeccably and did our School proud! This week we have been planning our own Christmas adverts in English, looking at the 8 times table in maths and rehearsing for our production. 

We have lots of exciting events happening in the next couple of weeks, so make sure you check the newsletter.

The children in Y2 and Y3 have been given letters regarding the coding club. The club has 25 spaces so if your child is interested get your slips in quickly.

Home Learning- The spellings for this week have been given out. We should be on the last spellings in the diary now (autumn). Remember to keep practising times tables- we have been working through the stickers (bronze, silver, gold) so will get round to everybody before Christmas. Keep reading three times a week and have a discussion about their book.

This week in Da Vinci class we have been focusing on SPAG. We have been looking at main clauses and articles. We have also been completing cracking comprehension. In maths we have been continuing with times tables. The children completed a times table quiz and need to continue to focus on and learn their 3s, 4s and 8s. We also created our Snowflake Christmas decorations for the Christmas tree service. The children had a fantastic time at the service, check out our pictures on twitter.

Linking Project- letters have been given out regarding the linking project next Friday.

Home Learning- The children's spellings have been given out. To clear confusion, if your child is in Alpha to Omega they should be learning Alpha to Omega spellings and diary spellings. If your child is not in Alpha to Omega they should be learning the weekly sound/ class spellings and the diary spellings. If your child is in Alpha to Omega and you would like to learn and be tested on both then this is fine, any extra learning is always great. Remember to keep reading 3 times a week and questioning your children on their book and practise times tables.

What a busy week! The children have been completing their tests this week and they have tried hard. We have also been writing letters to our future self for the time capsule. The children have had a very fun day taking part in an assembly,  putting their things in the capsule and watching it being buried. 

Letters regarding the linking project are being sent out on Monday with information about the day.

The children have taken home lyrics to practise their songs, they are doing great so keep on practising.

Home Learning- Spellings this week are a mixture of previous spellings to revise and consolidate. Keep practising times tables and reading three times a week. Diaries are checked every Thursday.

This week in DaVinci class we have been continuing with our multiplication and division work. In English, we have started work on our new book 'The Stone Age Boy' and have looked at different settings. We have also been investigating with magnets in Science. 

The children have had a great day for children in need and enjoyed their fitness assembly this morning, thank you for sending in your donation. 

Linking Project- we are going to be working with another school and completing fun activities and work. On the 7th December we will be going to Bolton College to take part in different workshops with our linking school and will be getting to know them better. A letter will be sent home shortly with more details.

Home learning- this week our spellings are based on Adverbs these will be tested next Friday. It is also important the that children are reading three times a week. There are still children who have not had their diaries signed. I have been testing times tables this week and it is apparent which children have been practising at home, keep practising.

We have had such a busy week this week with lots of great activities. We loved our workshop on Monday and were engaged throughout the day. Have a look on twitter and the class web page to see what we got up to. We also had a great Diwali day on Wednesday- sampling traditional food, Bollywood dancing and creating Indian Art. This week we have been focusing on Remembrance and have written poems, created posters on Word and have completed some fantastic artwork.

Thank you to those who have sent in a purple donation, the children always enjoy wearing their own clothes, (especially looking at each others football tops).

Our spellings for this week focus on homophones. These spellings are ones that children often misspell and get confused with the meaning. If you can practise any other homophones then that would be great also. Just a reminder to make sure all children are reading at least 3 times a week and practising times tables.

We have started our new topics this week and have been looking at magnetic materials. We have also been making bonfire night shape poems and multiplying in maths. The children are very excited for our Stone Age to Iron Age workshop on Monday. It will be a full day in the youth club looking at artefacts, making stone henge, playing games and finding out lots of new information. 

Next week Poppies will be being sold- see newsletter for more information.

We also have lots of exciting ideas for Divali on Wednesday, including making diva lamps.

Home learning. The children have been given their new spellings to practise and the next 4 in their diaries. Reminder to continue practising times tables as this is our focus this term.

We have had a busy final week in DaVinci class. The children have been finishing off their topics and are excited to start our new topics after half term. They have completed some fantastic art collages with Mrs Ansari and have enjoyed finishing their stories.

Just a reminder we have PE on Monday and Thursday as some children still do not have their PE kits on the correct day. The children have taken their PE kits home to be washed so make sure they come back after half term.

Stone Age to Iron Age workshop- letters have been sent home regarding our Stone Age to Iron Age workshop. This will take place on 5th November and payments are to be paid  through parent pay. I'm confident that the children will have a fantastic day and learn lots ahead of our topic. 

Home Learning- children need to continue with home reading and times tables practise over half term. I have also given out spellings for them to learn and the next 4 spellings in the diary.

Another busy week in Da Vinci we have created some fantastic art work for our Da Vinci class display, we have also been focusing on subtraction in maths and have written our own fantastic stories in English linked to natural disasters.

 

Open Day- On Tuesday 16th October the school will be open for you all to see our fantastic learning environments. Our class will be singing at 9:35am, 10:35am and 2pm in our classroom so if you are looking around School make sure you pop in.

 

Home school diaries- Just a reminder to make sure you are writing any home-reading in the children's diaries as some diaries are yet to have any entries logged. New spellings have been given out and we will also be testing the next 4 spellings from the Y3/4 list (in diaries).

This week the children have moved onto looking at different methods of addition and subtraction. In English we have started to plan our own stories based on 'Escape from Pompeii' and we have been focusing on the layers of the Earth and Volcanoes in Geography and Science. 

Our diaries have now arrived which means that any home reading needs to be written into diaries and they will be checked on Thursday's. We also need to continue practising times tables and these will be tested in class. In regards to spellings the spelling grids will still be sent home on Friday's and will be tested the following Friday. In addition to this, the children will also need to learn the first four spellings from the Y3/4 Autumn grid (Accident, Actual, Actually, Address). Each week we will move onto the next four.

This week in Da Vinci class we have started to read the book 'Escape from Pompeii' and we have written some fantastic setting and character descriptions. We have also been focusing on ordering numbers and place value in Maths. The children had a great time making their mud fossils, thank you for sending them in with their wellies and tubs.

The children have been given their new spellings to learn and these will be tested next Friday. We are still waiting on school diaries and they will be given out as soon as they arrive. Can we remember to practise our times tables and continue to read at home.

The children have enjoyed playing games and buying cakes to raise money for MacMillan. Thank you for your donations.

We have had another great week in DaVinci. This week we have continued focusing on place value in Maths and non-chronological reports in English. The children have been completing investigations in Science and looking at rock erosion. In art the children have been looking closely at Leonardo DaVinci. Just a reminder to bring in empty butter/ margarine tubs for our mud fossils on Tuesday 25th September and to bring wellies and a waterproof coat for this day.

The weekly spellings have been sent home with the children, we are focusing on long -e sounds and they will be tested next Friday.
