We have had a great first week back.  We had a visitor from the NSPCC talking about children's rights.

In maths this week we have revisited 2D shapes; looking at the properties. We have also focused on the 3 times table and completed multiplication calculations. This children have particularly loved learning about the Gunpowder Plot; looking at the significant people, the events and why it happened.

The children's spellings in Gauguin class are improving significantly improving. I their new home school dairies there are list of Year 1 and Year 2 words for them to continue practising.

All the children have had an amazing half term. To celebrate our achievements so far and share our knowledge about people from the past, we would be delighted to welcome you to our class assembly.

The assembly will take place on Thursday 21st November at 9am in the school hall.  The children will have lines to practise after half term, so please give them your encouragement at home.

Have a wonderful break

Another busy week in Gauguin Class. We've practised addition and subtraction, and solving missing number calculations. We've looked at natural/artificial light sources and the changes of the moon. We have also continued to learn about plastic pollution and enjoyed our visit from Dr Niall, who answered lots of questions about Greenpeace and pollution.

Please continue to use Spelling Shed for home learning, we are having a strong focus on spelling.

Have a wonderful weekend.

This week we have learned about Thomas Edison and his contribution to the light bulb. We produced some wonderful writing, recounting Thomas Edison's life.

In maths, we continued to reinforce odd and even numbers and we practised Greater Than, Less Than and Equal to. There are videos on our class page and photos of what we have been doing https://www.blackrodprimary.co.uk/greater-than-less-than/

We have also looked at Autumn changes around school and produced some amazing noun phrases about Autumn.

There are new spelling lists on Spelling Shed this week for home learning.

27th September 2019

This week in Gauguin class we have focused on number bonds to 10 and 20 using different methods such as ten frames, Numicons and bar models. We have also revisited odd and even numbers. We have looked at the different seasons in the UK and next week we will be looking at different climates around the world.

The English we have read Night Monkey, Day Monkey and used this to help us complete rhyming strings and our own rhyming sentences.

We are having a strong focus on spellings at the moment. Spelling Shed has spellings set for the children ready for them to access at home. If you're accessing this on a PC it works better using Chrome. I have uploaded the Year 1 and Year 2 spellings to the English section of our webpage. It would benefit many children to have additional practise of these at home.

Thank you for your kind donations for Macmillan Coffee afternoon.

Have a wonderful weekend.
