Home Learning and Weekly Updates

This week we have continued with Ice Palace and chosen a part of the story that we wanted to freeze frame. In maths we have continued with column addition and subtraction.

We have continued to look at Electrical Circuits and Magnets. Today we created some Remembrance Pictures.

Home Learning:

  • Please remember to write in your child's diary when they have read with an adult. Children should be reading 3 times a week for 30 minutes.
  • TTR is still set and children have until Friday to complete all 12 sessions. Please practise times tables with your child.
  • Attached above is a Picture News. We have an assembly on a Friday talking about different subjects. This picture news is to allow children to talk to parents at home about the learning that

is taking place in school. Please sign your child's diary when this has been done.

Diary checks will take place on a Thursday.

Monday is Remembrance Day - please ensure your child has a coat.

Friday is Children in Need Day - please ensure you child is dressed in spots.

Have a lovely weekend!

Miss Entwistle and the Kahlo Team.

This week we have started our new book 'Ice Palace'. Everyone has really enjoyed writing about cold places and their writing is fantastic. In maths we have started to use the column method and we have loved trying this new way of adding and subtracting.

We have started looking at electrical circuits and forces in the afternoons.

Here is a link that your child may want to try at home:

This weeks spelling's are:

Please ensure your child is using Spelling shed to practise their spellings too.

There is a read, cover, write spelling sheet available to download under the English tab.

Please practise 3 x tables.

TTR has 12 sessions set for your child to complete within the next 2 weeks.

Please remember to read 3 times a week with your child.

Your child now has their home school diaries. This means myself and Miss Parr will be checking when a child has been read to or read to someone else. You will also notice stamps in their home diaries for when they have taken part in guided reading or taken a visit to the library.

Thank you!

Miss Entwistle and the Kahlo Team.

This week we have all been working so hard! We have continued to add and subtract using different strategies to help us. In English, we have watched So Good to Me, we were really surprised when the lost pet was a giraffe and not a dog! We have written some fantastic descriptions and diary entries.

Extreme Reading- Half term is a great opportunity to get some Extreme Reading pictures. The library display is being updated and the more extreme the pictures, the better.

Spellings: There are several spelling lists that can be used on Spelling Shed. The list of spellings that are tested are under the English tab on our class page.

Times Tables: There is a 3 x table worksheet on the maths page for children if they would like to complete it. To do this, download it and print it. TTR is set for children to practise too.

Have a fantastic half term!

Miss Entwistle and the Kahlo Team.

It has been a busy week in Kahlo class. We have started to look at Autumn poetry. In maths we have been looking at greater than and less than and ordering numbers, we've had so much fun. In the afternoons we've been leaning about the Harvest Festival and looking at cities in the UK. We have also looked at Blackrod and located our points of interest.

Forest school is back to normal next week and is on Tuesday.

Extreme Reading- reminder that extreme reading pictures can be sent in as we are looking to update our display.

Macmillan- Thank you for all of your donations for this worthy cause. The children enjoyed their cakes and taking part in a variety of games.

Home learning- spellings are on Spelling Shed.

Reading and times table practise needs to continue.

I am aware we still have no diaries but reading still needs to take place.

Have a great weekend,

Miss Entwistle and the Kahlo team.

This week we have been looking at 1, 10, 100 more or less of a number. In English we have been writing some fantastic diary entries. We have written them in pen. We were so excited to use pen for the first time in Kahlo class.

During the afternoons, we have been looking at Kahlo’s work and creating our own piece in her style. We have also worked with Lowry and sketched leaves, tress and a landscape of the school fields.

Spelling shed: Miss Parr has worked with us and checked that we are now all logged on. We have found that spelling shed works better on Chrome/Safari rather than internet explorer. New passwords have been set for those who couldn’t log on (four digit number with their initials on the end).

TTR: I am still unable to log on. However I am aware that the children can. Please practise 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Reading: Please read with your child at least 3 times a week. Children will change their own books when they have finished. Please remind them to tell a member of the Kahlo team so that they are given time to change it.

PE kits MUST be in school all week and forest school is on FRIDAY next week. Please ensure forest school clothing is in school. If your child brings it in on Tuesday it will be kept in school until Friday.

We are still waiting for the home school diaries to be delivered.

Welcome back!

I hope you all have had a lovely summer break and are looking forward to the year ahead. This week we have had a lovely time getting to know one another and explore our new classroom.

This term we will be learning more about our artist ‘Frida Kahlo’ and also enjoying lots of fun lessons in our ‘Down to Earth’ topic.

We will also participate in ‘Forest School’ on a Tuesday PM with Mrs Lucas. Please ensure appropriate footwear and clothing are sent into school.

PE: Tuesday AM (Miss Entwistle and Miss Parr) and Thursday PM (Miss Parr). Both indoor and outdoor kits required.

Home Learning Diaries:

All Children will shortly receive new home learning dairies.

I have given the children new reading books and made a note of them.

If you still have a previous diary from last year, you may record reading in thus diary until the new ones arrive.

If you have misplaced your diary, then a simple record on paper will suffice (enclosed).

I will check the diaries on a Wednesday. I am looking for the children to have read at least 3 times per week.

Homework/Spellings/ x tables: Starting next Wednesday, I will set weekly spellings. Hopefully I will be able to put them on to ‘Spelling Shed’ for the children to access them and practise using the computer. I will test the children the following Wednesday in class.

I will also set a multiplication table to practise on ‘Timetable Rock Stars’.

I will update the class page weekly with expectations of homework.

The usual homework will consist of spelling, practising x tables and ‘Cracking Comprehension’ tasks on a regular basis.

Please ensure that your child has their water bottle and a coat in school due to the unpredictable nature of the weather.

Please take a look at our school calendar and newsletter which has lots of key dates for the upcoming term.

Please contact me if you have any worries or concerns.
