Lowry Memo: 14.2.20

We have had a great week. We have especially enjoyed making our Stone Age Dwellings and learning about area in Maths.


Reading: Please continue to read x 3 weekly and record in your reading diary. Children can write in when they have read and get parents to sign.

Maths: Continue to practise on TT Rockstars. Levels set for you. A target table has been set for your child based on the practise this week. 

Spelling: Curriculum words

heard, height, history, imagine, increase, important, interest, island, knowledge, learn -also set on Spelling Shed.

Forest School: There are no further sessions after the holidays.

Class Assembly: Our class assembly is on Friday 6th March at 9am. We will be focusing on the Stone Age. Words will be given out after half term alongside practising in the hall. Please can you provide a Stone Age Costume for your child. It could be animal prints or see examples below.

Please bring in on Monday 3rd March.

World Book Day: Thursday 5th March: Come dresses as an inspirational person eg teacher, singer, sports personality etc. Bring a book you enjoy/favourite author.

Lowry Memo: 7.2.20

We have had a great week. We have especially enjoyed undertaking our focused practical tasks in DT and designing our own Stone Age dwellings, ready to be made next week.

 

COLLECTING RESOURCES: YOU MAY WISH TO COLLECT SOME MATERIELS FOR YOUR STONE AGE DWELLING EG STICKS, LEAVES, MATERIAL, MOSS. Please bring in a carrier bag on Monday next week. We do have materials in school, however children may like personalised resources.

 

We have been writing our own stone age stories and using Maths Frame to get an understanding of which multiplication tables we know.

Maths: Continue to practise on TT Rockstars. Levels set for you. A target table has been set for your child based on the practise this week. 

Spelling: homophones Set B (word that sound the same but are spelt differently)  I will test the words in a sentence. Test Friday. Further revision words also set on Spelling Shed to practice. 

Forest School: REMINDER to bring clothing on Tuesday.

Reminder: Valentines disco on Tuesday and Dress Down day (own clothes on Friday -due to half term!)

Lowry Memo: 31.1.20

We have had a great week. We have especially enjoyed learning about the dwellings of the Stone Age period. We have been looking at how division is related to multiplication.

Cracking Comprehension: Task set on 'The Enchanted Wood,'

Maths: Continue to practise on TT Rockstars. Levels set for you. I have attached the PowerPoint from the meeting on Wednesday to the bottom of the class page.

Lowry Memo: 24.1.20

 

We have had a great week. We have especially enjoyed Chinese New Year Day. We have also started to learn about the different eras of the Stone Age and Hunter-Gatherers. 

Reading: Please continue to read x 3 weekly and record in your reading diary. Reading comprehension enclosed for homework. 

Maths: Continue to practise on TT Rockstars. Levels set for you. We have been focusing on 2,4, 8 x table and learning how to solve short multiplication calculations. Homework activity enclosed to support learning. 

Spelling: -ture ending. Test FRIDAY. Further revision words also set on Spelling Shed to practice. 

Please remember there is the 'Coding' trip on Tuesday and to bring a packed lunch. There is no Forest School that day due to the trip.

Lowry Memo: 17.1.20

We have had a great week. We have especially enjoyed finishing the story of the Worst Witch and learning about factor pairs in Maths. eg: 27 has factor pairs 1x27, 3x9.

We have also started to learn about the Stone Age and the Skara Brea-a prehistoric village on the Orkney Islands.

We have tried to sort all technical problems in relation to ICT.

Maths: Continue to practise on TT Rockstars. Levels set for you. we have been focusing on 11 and 12 x table.

Spelling: gu words. Test Thursday. Further revision words also set on Spelling Shed to practice. 

Letters: Children have been given Chinese New Year and lunch letters, Coding Trip letter. Please ensure these are returned by next week. 

Space Camp: Email has been sent to parents. Closing date Friday 24th January for application letters.

Welcome back and Happy New Year! We have had a great first week back. We have especially enjoyed making sandwiches in our Design Technology project. 

Reading: Please continue to read x 3 weekly and record in your reading diary.

Cracking Comprehension: 'Stone Age' reading comprehension task -set under Y3 but to help understanding of our upcoming topic. Please complete by next Friday. 

Maths: Continue to practise on TT Rockstars. Levels set for you. we have been focusing on 11 and 12 x table.

Spelling: Curriculum words. Test Thursday. Further revision words also set on Spelling Shed to practice. 

Letters: Children have been given Chinese New Year and lunch letters, Coding Trip letter.

Space Camp: Today we have had a Space Camp assembly- Further details to follow on the 'Newsletter.'

Friday 20th December

We have had a very festive week. We have particularly enjoyed our Christmas Party.

I would like to say a big 'Thank You' for all the lovely cards and presents, they really are appreciated.

Christmas Homework: To relax and enjoy yourself and come back refreshed and renewed in the New Year!

What a busy but enjoyable week! The children performed fantastically in their production, we hope you enjoyed it.

 

Reminders-

Tuesday 187th December is our Christmas party, remember to bring in your £1 contribution if you haven't already. Children can come to school in their party clothes all day.

Thursday 19th December- Christmas Lunch.

Friday 20th December : non uniform/dress down day

We have had a great week. We especially enjoyed starting our new text 'The Worst Witch' by Jill Murphy in English and learning about perimeter in Maths.

Further from Parents' Evening: A number of parents requested further reading comprehension/Maths work to support their child. CGP books are a good resource for Maths and English. There are work and revision books for Year 4 Maths and English Reading books which may be of benefit. I have enclosed some further activities to support the children for homework.

We have had a great week. We have been working our way through our quizzes for English(Reading), Maths, Spelling and Grammar. Results will be reported in Autmn Term results and there will be a chance to discuss progress at Parents' Evening.

We have had another lovely week. We attended a special 'Remembrance' assembly and joined the whole school in the 2 minutes silence. 

Maths: We have been  working on column subtraction with 1 or 2 exchanges and one step word problems. Please continue to practise your x tables on TT Rockstars.

English: We have continued to read the Ice Palace and have been making predictions and summarising our thoughts in paragraphs about the setting and characters. .

Reading: Please continue to read x 3 weekly and record in your reading diary.

Cracking Comprehension: 'The Writing Competition' non-fiction text has been set for completion by next Friday. 

Spelling: im prefix -also on Spelling Shed. Test Thursday.

We have had a lovely week and we have been reflecting on 'Remembrance' and what it means to us.

Maths: We have been working on column addition with 1 or 2 exchanges and one step word problems. Please continue to practise your x tables on TT Rockstars.

English: We have been reading the Ice Palace and writing in the role of the characters.

Lowry Memo 1.11.19

We have had a great week and started a text called The Ice Palace in English. It will link perfectly with our new topic Pole to Pole.

In maths we have been learning our 7x table and practising column addition.

Spelling: Focus on il / ir prefixes.

Maths: continue to recap previous tables. 

Reading: the new diaries have arrived!!! Please record reading x 3 weekly and I will check during Guided Reading sessions.

Lowry Memo 19.10.19

 

We have had another lovely week. We have been reflecting upon how grateful we are in English/letter writing and working on our multiplication facts in Maths.

Spelling: I have set words based on words from the curriculum. They are also on Spelling Shed. I will test these word on Thursday as usual, after the break.

Maths: Please practise 7 x table for mini quiz on Thursday. 

Reading: Please continue to read 3 times per week.

Cracking Comprehension: Mrs Mead works with Lowry class on a Friday morning. She has set a 'Roald Dahl' task on Cracking Comprehension. To be completed for the Friday back after half term.

Lowry Memo: 11.10.19

We have had a great week and particularly enjoyed our Harvest Service. Many thanks for all your kind donations.

In English we have been learning to use fronted adverbials of time and in Maths we have been rounding to the nearest 100 and counting in 25's.

Spelling: Focus on homophones-Test Thursday. Words available on Spelling Shed.

Maths: Practise 6 x table-Mini quiz Thursday.

Reading: Please continue to read at least x3 per week.

Lowry Memo: 5.10.19

 

We have had a great week. In English we have continued to share our poems and write our own poems based on Autumn.

We have been rehearsing for the Harvest Service on Tuesday 8th Oct at 9am. Please bring in your harvest donations on Monday in time for us to lay the harvest table.

In Maths we have been ordering 4 digit numbers and comparing them >< = signs.

Reading: Please continue to read on a regular basis.

Spelling: Focus on Key words this week. Also on Spelling Shed.

Maths: Please practise your multiplication tables. TT Rockstars can support your learning.

I will test children on 3 and 4 x table this week.
