'Why do we like to be beside the seaside?'

Geography topic

In our topic we have been finding out about different types of holidays. Such as:

* beach holidays

* snow/ski holidays

* countryside holidays

* city breaks

* cruise holidays

We have also been using the atlas to find places in the United Kingdom that we have visited.

'What were seaside holidays like in the past?'

History based topic

As part of our hook we were visited by a puppet show. We then had lots of fun creating our own puppet shows.

'What would Big Bad Wolf find exciting in Blackrod?'

As part of our Geography this term we are studying the locality of Blackrod. We will be identifying key features of a village and will be creating out own maps of Blackrod.

'Why did the Titanic sink?'

(History based unit)

This tem our learning challenge question is:

'Why did the Titanic sink?'

In English we are researching information about the Titanic. We are going to use different sources to find out the answers to our questions. So far we have used the Internet, books, photographs and articles from old newspapers.

'Who were Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole?'

History based topic

This term our learning challenge question is:

'Who were Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole?'

So far we understand that Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole lived a long time ago. We have been using historical sources to deduce this information.

'Where would you prefer to live England or Africa?'

Geography based unit

As part of our learning challenge question in the Autumn term we were trying to answer the question:

  'Where would you prefer to live England or Africa?'

We did lots of research about life in Africa. We used an atlas to locate where Africa is. We also calculated how long it would take to get to Kenya if we flew from Manchester airport.

We also wanted to find out what the temperature was like in Africa and we compared it to the temperature in Blackrod. We also used the Internet to research about the homes in Africa. Some people live in villages and some people live in big cities like Nirobi. One of our favourite lessons was find out about the wild animals that live in Africa.

Mrs Chadwick gave us a talk about Africa because she went to live there! We really enjoyed this topic and found it hard to choose where we would prefer to live. We recorded our answers in our floor book.
