History
Stone Age to Iron Age
We learned that Prehistory is the period of time before written records. The prehistoric period is divided into three ‘ages’. They are known as the Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age.
We research the three different ages of prehistory and made information posters which created our own timeline for our classes. We used what we had learned about the 3 different ages and tried to sort the artefacts in the correct era.
We learned about Cave Paintings and explored how they help us interpret the past. We recreated our own art using charcoal and natural coloured chalk. We drew animals that were alive in the Stone Age such as Saber tooth tigers and woolly mammoths.
We enjoyed our Stone age workshop were we got to hunt a mammoth, compare bones, cave paint, craft tools and practise archery.
We are Historians - Local History
Within this project the children developed and practiced the skills to become historians of their local area. By exploring both primary and secondary evidence, made available by family members and friends as well as Bolton Museum Service, the children were able to describe some of the social and cultural diversity of past society.
By investigating the experiences of men, women and children in the past and through using more than one source of evidence the children were able to develop historical enquiries that have given them a more accurate understanding of their own local history.
We had a fantastic time at Bolton Museum and learnt so much about Blackrod that we didn't know before.
