Science
States of Matter
We have been investigating solid, liquid and gases. Comparing and observing materials and how they change when cooled or heated.
Science: Climate Change
In this project the children used their previous learning of Climate Change to develop a better understanding of its impact and investigated how the melting ice caps are causing flooding and destruction on low lying Island communities.
Investigate sound and hearing
We identified how sounds are made, associating some of them with something vibrating. We investigated this by making our own musical instruments and exploring how we can change sounds. We also learned about vibrations from sounds travelling through a medium to the ear.
Investigating Light and Seeing
We learned that we need light in order to see things and that dark is the absence of light. We explored how light is reflects from different surfaces and recognised that light from the sun can be dangerous and that there are ways to protect their eyes. We investigated how shadows are formed and how light from a light source is blocked by a solid object. We also enjoyed finding patterns in the way that the size of shadows change.
Understand Animals and Humans
We have identified that animals, including humans, need the right types and amounts of nutrition. We investigated food packaging, focusing on fats and sugars and recorded our data on graphs. We constructed and interpreted a variety of food chains, identifying producers, predators and prey.
We researched why humans and some animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement and finished our topic by describing the simple functions of the basic parts of the digestive system in humans.
