Youth Council Elections 2023
Thank you the Blackrod Mayor and the 2022-23 Youth councillors for hosting the event and to all the candidates who took part. We were so proud of you all.
Congratulations to Flynn, Drew, Heath and Eve who were appointed the new Youth Councillors for 2023-24.
After the candidates had completed their presentations everyone voted using the booths and ballot boxes.
Well done to our candidates who all presented to Upper Key Stage 2 and The Blackrod Mayor at the Youth Council Elections.
Calling all Year 5 children! We are looking to elect new Youth Councillors to represent school as part of the Blackrod Town Council.
There are many reasons to join the Youth Council. To begin with, Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) says that children and young people should have a say in decisions that affect their lives.
Being a member of the Youth Council can provide a meaningful way in which children can voice their opinions and have their views taken into account in decisions that impact upon them.
This is a great way for children to take on leadership roles, promote the voice of our school, problem solve and have an impact on their community. This is also an excellent way for children to learn more about democracy, local and global citizenship and accountability.
This role involves attending council meetings, reading agendas, writing letters, research, taking notes, delivering feedback and sharing information.
There are 4 places available. If you would like run for election, you will need to create a short presentation (no longer than 5 minutes) answering the following three questions.
- How do you embody our school values?
- Why would you be a good representative for our school?
- Why do you want to be a Youth Councillor?
You will present your presentation to your Key Stage. Following the presentations, everyone will be able to vote in the election.
Please complete the slip (see printable letter below)and return to me by the 6th July 2023. If you would like any help, please let me know.
